Students

Here is a non-descript shot of my students. They are listening to my partner teacher in Turkish at the moment. What I can tell you is that they have a TON of energy and smarts. They ask good questions, have great ideas and are willing to share those ideas. They are adorable and we are learning all about each other... they aren't just my students, as always, they are my teachers. I am learning more patience from them, how to be more positive, how to be more gentle, how to be more giving and understanding and how to speak Turkish. It's going to be a great year!!!

How does the teaching work? Language wise I mean? Are your students Turkish or international?

Hey... great question. We share the work load completely. We each teach 50% of the time roughly. Although, we often team teach concepts or for assessments and so on. We share the planning and plan our lessons together with the exception of our language based lessons. I teach English and she teaches Turkish. We write report cards together and all of that too. When she is teaching Turkish, that's my time to pull kids for language support and it works in the reverse for her. Our class is all Turkish kids, but plenty of classes have kids from other cultures and countries. The school tries it's best to support their native tongue as well. When Nilay and I teach other subjects, it's done bilingually. Sometimes just in English, sometimes just in Turkish and often mixed. It's a really interesting model.
